We have stayed at Reka Hisa last December, it was completely off season and we were the only ones staying there at the time.
I just wanted to say that the place is very quiet, with lovely view on the river & a beautiful sunrise whilst opening the curtains!
I want to also mention that Clive is a fabulous cook! I was astonished by the food he prepared : I haven't had such great food for a long time, even in expensive restaurant.
“Wonderful Slovenia”

My husband and I stayed at Reka Hisa for a long weekend at the end of February 2008. Clive and Myrna are wonderful, they really look after you. Clive's cooking is amazing, and the friendly atmosphere really makes you feel like you are staying with friends rather than staying at a hotel.
The rooms are clean and newly refurbished. They are small, but when the setting is so beautiful who wants to sit around in their room! With the beautiful river at your doorstep, each morning it is a joy to wake up and stand on the deck, breathing in the fresh Slovenian air.
Despite the poor snow conditions, our hosts still ensured we had a good weekend, giving us advice on places to go, and driving us about.
I would certainly recommend Reka Hisa to anyone looking for a lovely weekend surrounded by good people and a gorgeous landscape.

My wife and I were married in Slovenia in June 2007and had it not been for Clive and Myrna, the lovely hosts at Reka Hisa Guesthouse, we quite simply would not have had a wedding!
We had never been to Slovenia before (my Mum and Dad had stayed there three times prior to our trip and had recommended it as a location for our wedding) and neither had we met Clive or Myrna - we had only spoken to them through email. Even before our arrival they were willing to help us with all the paperwork we needed for the marriage license, and hosted the reception (Clive cooked everything - what an amazing chef!). They always replied promptly to our questions, always so kind and supportive of our wishes.
When Clive came to pick us up from Ljubljana I immediately got on with him and throughout our stay he and his partner Myrna treated us like family. Staying with them was great, he's a top bloke and VERY reliable and friendly, and Myrna is full of life and so helpful with everything. Our wedding day was perfect thanks to them. They arranged our entire reception, booked the registry office, a translator, a horse and carriage, a gondola ride on Lake Bled and helped us with all the paperwork. As mentioned earlier, Clive is a wiz in the kitchen and he prepared the most amazing 4-course meal for our reception. My wife is vegan and Clive was more than happy to cater to her dietary needs, as he would be for anyone with special requests. They run their guesthouse in a way that makes you feel like you are at home - whatever you want from your holiday or special event, they will do everything to make it happen!
The guesthouse, Reka Hisa, is idyllic, right next to a beautiful river and surrounded by lush mountains. It is quiet and comfortable, the rooms pristine. I have been backpacking all over the world and it really is one of the nicest places I have been - for scenery, accomodation, activities, weather, everything!
The surrounding area, including Bled and Bohinj, is stunning - the people are friendly, the food is fantastic, and there is so much to see and do! I would recommend this part of Slovenia highly. Our wedding was everything we wanted and more, so if you're looking for a beautiful wedding destination (or just a great holiday!) with hassle-free, helpful planning, and great food, get hitched at Reka Hisa! It will be an unforgettable experience you won't regret!
Thanks again Clive and Myrna! We'll be back!

My husband and I just returned from a really fantastic 10 day vacation in Slovenia and would highly recommend the place we stayed. I don't usually write reviews on places we have been (this is the first in our 20 years of travel), but we had such a fantastic time in a country I really knew nothing about, that I wanted to let others know of this wonderful place.
This riverside lodge is the best place we have ever stayed!! WOW! Clive and Myrna (the owners who you will view as friends when you leave) do not run their lodge like its just a business. They really welcome you into their home and make sure your vacation is one to remember. This is a very special place! "Full service" does not even to begin to describe what Clive and Myrna offer. Clive goes out of his way to make sure you are having a wonderful time and takes time to help you get to your activities, set up things to do each day, and gives you advice on where to go for the activity of your choice. You can stay at Reka Hisa (River House in Slovenian) and plan your own activities or do what we did and choose a multi-activity holiday where your activites are part of the package. If you want to change the package to meet your own needs/desires, Clive is very flexible. We went kayaking (twice), canyoning, rafting, biking, hiking, swimming, and visited an astounding cave. Slovenia is absolutely beautiful! The rooms at Reka Hisa are spotless, comfortable (never slept better), and the river view from each room breathtaking. Each night we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the rushing river just under our window. But the true highlight of our trip was meeting and staying with Clive and Myrna--both very extraordinary people! You will be treated to a delightful breakfast which includes Clives homemade jams. However, dinner is the real treat! Clive is your chef (unless you are lucky enough to talk Myrna into preparing traditional Phillipino dishes for you!) and everything is made fresh and is soooo delicious! We enjoyed every 3 course meal! We also had the pleasure of making new friends over dinner, especially Clive and Myrna, who will join you at the dinner table each evening. Don't make the mistake of booking a brief stay. Those who stayed only a few nights were regretting it and wishing they had made their stay longer! I just hope that this place doesn't get so popular that I can't get a reservation next time I want to go!
The Reka Hisa rates are very reasonable and include breakfast and dinner. Airfare to Ljubljana is cheap if you book ahead and Clive will pick you up at the airport. The town of Bled (with a lovely lake) is 10 minutes by bus/car and Lake Bohinj is 15 minutes away as well (this lake is absolutely gorgeous). Besides the activities I listed, you can also horse-back ride, paraglide, tour the local area, go fly-fishing, …and in the winter you can ski, sled, and ice-skate.
I hope you are able to visit Slovenia soon and stay at Clive and Myrna's riverside house . |
