The Village
Canazei is our Sella Ronda connected resort in the stunning Val di Fassa, one of the treasures of the spectacular Dolomites area of north-east Italy. Arguably the most beautiful mountain range in Europe, the pink and orange hues of the craggy peaks change colour from daybreak to twilight. The resort enjoys a predominantly Italian ambience and boasts an enviable position right in the heart of the Dolomiti Superski area. Canazei has a cosmopolitan feel and is the more established village of the valley and is a popular destination for British, Dutch and Scandinavian tourists. Often referred to as one resort, Val di Fassa is actually made up of several smaller resorts, mostly lift linked. The largest of them are Canazei, the directly neigbouring Alba and Campitello and this is also where most of the accommodation for international guests is situated. There is also a very active après ski scene and lots of bars and restaurants to keep the skiers and boarders amused off the slopes, the Cantinetta Disco in Canazei is worthy of particular mention and the Husky Bar for a lively atmosphere with dancing into the early hours.
The Ski Area
With 200 km of slopes on offer in the Fassa Valley it's fair to say that you won't get bored with having to go down the same runs all the time. There's something for everyone here with pistes to cater for all proficiencies. Beginners will find the best nursery slopes in Canazei while intermediates will be especially satisfied as the majority of runs throughout the Valley are red. There are plenty of challenging blacks to appease the advanced while the area also has a host of scenic off-piste runs to enjoy. All of the ski areas are linked by free ski bus (also free for non skiers). The area is also part of the giant Superski Dolomiti region, the largest ski area in the world with over 1200 km of slopes and some 500 lifts above more than 50 villages all on the same ski pass. It is said to have some of the most breathtaking scenery and skiing in the world. It does not always follow that the larger ski areas have access to the tougher skiing, beginners for example will find that there are some good nursery slopes in whatever resort they choose but in Canazei they are the best. Intermediates will have the whole area at their feet and since most of the pistes are red there is plenty of opportunity to cruise and enjoy the entire Sella Ronda circuit. Advanced skiers will also find plenty to challenge them here with numerous blacks and a great variety of scenic off piste. There is a local Fassa Vally only ski ticket which has a lower cost. |
