Skyriders & Club Mistral - Cabarete

Searching for the sea route to India, Christopher Columbus discovered the island of Hispaniola in 1492. Today, the island is subdivided into the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Cabarete is a windsurfers' and kitesurfers' paradise, situated on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, about 40 km from Puerto Plata International Airport.The town, which is located on a 4-km-long sandy beach, is just the right location for those who crave sun and wind.

Club Mistral & Skyriders Cabarete has moved into a new location at the beginning of 2009!!
The new perfect set-up is situated 200 meters further downwind from the old location in the *center* of Cabarete bay.
Now the center is operating from 'Plaza Carib Windcenter' together with Lazer Training Center, EZE Bar & Restaurant and Carib Wind Surfshop.

The days in Cabarete begin very pleasurably with a light breeze, which gains in strength, to a force of 4-6, after midday, and blows cross-offshore from the right in summer (May to November). In the bay, the surface of the water is flat to choppy. The waves at the outer reef are up to 4 m high, and both wave novices and ambitious surfing experts can let off a lot of steam there.

Our centre includes a shop and a cosy chill-out area under shady palms, with a gorgeous view of the ocean. There is a wide variety of affordable bars and restaurants to choose from. Cabarete is known as "the windsurfers' Caribbean Eldorado" because it offers countless water sports options, as well as romantic horseback rides on mile-long beaches, surfboard riding, mountain biking - to mention only some of the attractions. It has a special atmosphere that will make your windsurfing or kitesurfing vacation unforgettable. Enjoy your fruity cocktail at happy hour and allow yourself to be carried away by the rhythms of the Merengue and the Salsa.

The Caribe Surf hotel is only a few steps away from our Club Mistral/Skyriders centre and about 60 m from the beach by foot.

Directions
There are 2 main airports on the island of Dominican Republic.
The first one is "Aeropuerto Internacional de Gregorio Luperon" in Puerto Plata on the North Coast of the island about 30 kms west of Cabarete which is a 25 minutes-drive passing Sosua, 10 kms away from Cabarete. Taxi services are available at all times as well as carrental services with Avis, Hertz, Europcar, National and furthermore.

Secondly there is the international airport of Santo Domingo "Aeropuerto internacional Las Americas de Jose Francisco Pena Gomez", in the capitol on the southern coast of Dominican Republic, which is 150 kms and 2 hours-drive on a Highway away from Santiago - the 2nd biggest city of the island in the Cibaovalley on the north coast - which again will lead to Cabarete over the northern chain of mountains on smaller roads in about 1,5 hours (110 kms).
Transfer from Santo Domingo to Cabarete by car costs about 4 hours.
