Beginner Windsurfing Holiday in Ialyssos

Ialyssos is next door to Ixia and just 10 minutes from the airport. You could be on the water an hour after getting off the plane! Lying on a pebble and sandy beach Ialyssos has some large hotels that dominate the seafront but the original town still has some of its Greek character, and it has a very warm and friendly feel to the area. THE WINDSURFING
The windsurfing conditions in Ialyssos, Rhodes are general bump and jump. There can be some shorebreak and the chop and swell build up the further out you sail. The wind is cross shore from the left. As the wind builds up during the day, beginners are advised to practise and take their lessons in the morning when the water is flatter and the wind lighter.
Pro Center have three first class centres in Ialyssos. A seperate F2 and JP centre both located at the Blue Horizon Hotel and their Windmill Centre for beginners and less experienced windsurfers. This is a very professionally run operation offering the very latest kit. The centre is located on a popular pebbly and sandy beach in the middle of the bay. There is clean wind right from the shore so you can blast straight out over clear blue water into the bay.
Sail sizes 3.3 metre to 8.4 metre from Neil Pryde and North. Full range of F2 and JP kit including beginner boards and training rigs and children's rigs. Instruction is available from qualified staff.

THE WIND
Rhodes benefits from the Meltemi wind that is created by the difference in temperatures between the land and sea. It is at its strongest in mid Summer when the weather is at its hottest. In early and late season there is also a good chance of planing conditions. Normally the wind will build during the day, from Force 2/3 in the morning to Force 4 - 6 by mid/ late afternoon at its peak.

Accommodation Details

BLUE HORIZON
Although most of the hotel architecture in Ialyssos is rather unusual, once inside the Blue Horizon you will be pleasantly surprised by the lush gardens and attractive pool area. There is one restaurant with buffet meals for breakfast and dinner, a bar and a beach bar/restaurant. A Kids Club and evening entertainment are also available. Two of the windsurfing centres are based at the hotel so you sail straight off the beach here.
Most of the 211 rooms have a seaview which is highly recommended as the view of the bay here is really special. The 60 bungalows in the garden are also popular especially for families. All rooms have bathroom with bath, air-conditioning (01.06 - 30.09), fridge, satellite TV, telephone and hairdryer.

SURF HOUSE STUDIOS
The Surf House Studios are located just across the road from the beach and the Pro Centre "Windmill". This clean and well kept building of 6 studios is in a great location and great value for those on a tighter budget or who prefer to be a little more independent. Everyone staying here is a windsurfer/kitesurfer so they have a chilled out atmosphere and barbeques are often organised here in the evenings.
All 6 studios are equipped with shower/WC, kitchenette, fridge, air-conditioning (fee payable locally) and balcony with seaview.

ILYSSION APARTMENTS
This very popular small aparthotel is family run and even has its own orange orcharcd. The friendly Greek owners will make your stay here one to remember. There is a small but attractive pool area, snack bar (breakfast can also be taken here at an extra charge) and sun terrace. This is an ideal base for singles, couples or families who prefer to eat out and about in the local area.
The three buildings (the owner had to build more rooms due to the hotels popularity) house studios, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments sleeping up to 6 people. All rooms have air-conditioning (fee payable locally), kitchen and shower/WC.

SUN BEACH
Located next door to the Blue Horizon the Sun Beach Resort has two fresh water swimming pools placed in two different areas of the complex with separate children´s pool. On the hotel beach the sun beds and umbrellas are available at a charge. Other facilties include two floodlit tennis courts, mini-golf , table tennis, fitness centre, sauna, Jacuzzi & massage on request. Full animation programme from a professional animation & entertainment team day and night, mini club operated by the hotel (May to October).
Rooms here consist of 105 Double Superior rooms, 84 Studios newly renovated and 110 Apartments (with separate bedroom and living room) overlooking the sea as well as the beautiful gardens. All the rooms on the complex are comfortably furnished with balcony, private bath/shower combination, safe deposit box, hairdryer, telephone, Internet access from all the rooms, satellite TV, radios and air-conditioning in operation from 01/06-30/09. Studios and apartments are equipped with kitchenettes with cooking rings, microwaves, kettles and toasters.

The family run Barbie Apartments in Trianda are a perfect place to spend a relaxing holiday and they are within easy reach of a variety of local amenities and just a 15 minute walk from the windsurf centre. Traditional Greek hospitality will help to make this holiday memorable and enjoyable. Excellent food, drink and value for money characterises these apartments.
