Beginner Windsurfing Holiday to Marsa Alam

Although developing rapidly, Marsa Alam and its surrounding area is still one of the most unspoilt areas in the Red Sea. 3 hours South of Hurghada, the area has become a lot more accessible since the building of Marsa Alam airport in 2001.

The new Mistral centre is located 70km south of Marsa Alam airport at the Shams Alam Hotel. Within the beautiful Wai El-Gemal National Park, this protected area will appeal to those who love nature. Dugongs have been spotted basking in the bay and turtles even come up and lay their eggs on the beach!

THE WINDSURFING
Safe windsurfing in a shallow water bay is perfect for beginners of all ages, with no waves and in small groups. For beginners with more experience, you can try the Premium Unlimited Instruction Programme: 5 times a week, up to 2 units a day, each unit lasting 2 hours. You can learn everything from beach start to freestyle manoeuvres. Consistent, warm wind, and clear water makes the learning process fast and students will have a lot of fun at their first steps in windsurfing.
The flat, shallow water in the lagoon is the ideal place for beach and waterstart training, and provides one of the best conditions to achieve fully planning gybes before hitting the swell again as well as other freestyle manoeuvres. If you are looking to perfect your gybes, then this is the spot for you!

THE WIND
The wind blows predominantly from North (sideshore from the left) and is extremely constant and tends to last the whole day. If it is already blowing force 5 or more in the morning, it will most probably stay this strong for the rest of the day. A thermal wind dominates in the summer and can blow all day with 4 & 8 bft. This area should have a longer wind season than other resorts in the Red Sea. Although the centre has only been open since March 2008 there are no yearly stats yet, but so far it is looking great!
Winter should also be great here. A good guide may be that dive boats limit their departures at this time due to the wind.

HOTEL SHAMS ALAM (Half Board)
The Shams Alam Hotel is located 47 km south of Marsa Alam in the heart of Wadi Gemal National Park, surrounded by the beautiful desert nature. Enjoy amazing diving and snorkeling sites and a perfect windsurf spot right at the front door. The Club Mistral Centre is on the hotel´s private 1km sandy beach. The restaurant has an open-air dining areaand other amenities include shops, fitness centre and 24hrs medical service and pharmacy. Outside the hotel offers a heated pool, pool bar and a dive and snorkeling centre. For children their is a seperate pool and playground. Designed in ancient Arabic architecture with brick domes and arches this property will give you a feel of real Egypt.
All 160 standard rooms have sea view and balcony or terrace and are located in eleven two storey buildings. Each unit is spacious and comfortably furnished and offers bath/WC, AC, Sat-TV, mini bar, safe and telephone. Interconnecting rooms and disabled rooms are also available.

VIME GORGONIA RESORT (ALL INCL.)
The 5-star Hotel Vime Gorgonia is situated about 50 km south from the city of Marsa Alam in the beautiful desert nature of Wadi el Gimal National Park. Marsa Alam Airport is about 120 km away. The hotel sits right on the beach with two natural coral pools right in front of it. Our Club Mistral Center is 1 km away. If you don´t want to walk the 20 minutes on the beach you can easily take a taxi or we can organize a transfer.
The hotel has been first opened in 2008 and is set on a large and well-kept areal. It consists of 352 guest rooms in 22 smaller buildings with 16 units each. Among the comprehensive facilities and services are a 24 hrs reception, a large lobby with comfortable seating, TV room, buffet restaurant and à la carte restaurant, several bars, coffee shop, hair stylist, shopping area, amphitheatre and discotheque. Wireless Internet is available at an extra charge throughout the hotel. Outside you will find two swimming pools (one heated), whirlpool, sundeck with cairs and sun beds as well as a pool-/snack bar. Pool and beach towels are free of charge. The beach bar is available in the summer month only. Children can enjoy a separate kid´s pool, playground and miniclub by the hour (high season only) for 4 – 12 year olds. Babysitting is available on request. Further, the hotel offers money exchange, medical services and laundry services.
