Beginner Windsurfing Holiday to Prasonisi

Prasonisi is the ideal resort for those who want to spend as much time on the water as possible as that is the only reason people stay here! The accommodations are quite basic, but ideally located right on the beach, and in a totally unspoilt area of this beautiful island. There are no swimming pools, bars or other resort facilities that come with the more general holiday resorts. However, for the windsurfer or kitesurfer this place is absolute heaven!

THE WINDSURFING
The Windsurfing in Prasonisi is great for all levels. The very flat water on the off shore side has a shallow area for beginners (with very good boat cover if needed) making for very fast progression.
Full range of sail sizes from 2.0 metre to 8.1 metre from North and Neil Pryde including lots of beginner boards, training rigs and childrens rigs. This is a great spot to learn due to the flat water. Instruction is available from beginner courses through waterstart to freestyle and wave sailing.

THE WIND
The wind in Prasonisi is very strong and very reliable, normally you would expect 25 - 26 days per month of 20 - 30 knots!! It's the NW “Meltemi” trade wind that blows across the whole Med in the summer. Hot weather in mainland Europe creates a very dry and very stable high pressure which funnels this NW wind through the Greek Islands. Due to local topography, the wind funnels through the island opposite Prasonisi and the large hill behind it Prasonisi will usually have a force stronger than elsewhere on the island. The windsurfing season is May to mid October with the strongest winds in July/August.
The local wind is a thermal effect so it's best in the summer months. It's worth noting that the wind here seems to be dominated by local effects so the windguru forecast doesn't bear much relation to the actual conditions.

Accommodation Details

LIGHTHOUSE I & II
This accommodation is located in two buildings in heart of Prasonisi. Owned for the last 20 years by Asemeni and her sisters, you are sure of a friendly welcome. The older Lighthouse I is located directly on the beach and Lighthouse II just a stones throw from the beach and their beach front bar/restaurant.
The comfortable rooms sleep up to 4 per room with fridge, TV, air conditioning and balcony. Rooms in Lighthouse I are large and some have seaview. Apartment rooms with two seperate bedrooms are also available. Wireless internet is available in the bar/restaurant for a small charge.

OASIS
The Oasis hotel is directly on the beach facing the spot, a superb location! The hotel is run by Giannas and his family who pride themselves in providing a great service. The hotel has a large restaurant/bar facing out to the beach and Windsurf / Kitesurf spots.
There are rooms for 1 - 3 people plus 1 bedroom apartments that can accommodate up to 4 people with two seperate rooms. Many of the rooms have partial or full sea-views from the balcony. All the rooms have their own shower and toilet, refrigerator ,direct dialing telephone service, satellite TV, air-conditioning. The hotel also have wireless internet access which is included in the price for half an hour per day. Extra time can be paid for locally.
