Windsurfing Holiday to Brazil

After a long search, we have found a further wind paradise, this time in the state of Cearã, northern Brazil. Preã is the name of the small, unspoilt fishing village near Jericoacoara. The beach is huge, the spot ideal for windsurfing, with winds that blow all day long with a force of 5 - 7 Bft (17 – 33 knots) from June to January.

Located on the northernmost tip of the province of Cearã, Preã is one of the windiest places in Brazil, if not in the world! Most of Cearã’s coastline has a south-east – northwest orientation but the coastline in Preã & Jeri runs east – west, parallel to the equator and the strong trade winds that start in Africa and blow unobstructed across the Atlantic and the northeast Brazilian coast.

Itinerary / Highlights

THE WIND
In summer time July-Dec, the wind is very strong but also very consistent. It blows every day! In the winter time February -June the wind is light and it blows on an average of three days a week. The wind is side on shore from the right with minimal current year round.
Waves are affected by the wind swell and moon phase. Full moon genarally brings the best swell. The biggest waves reach 2 metres. Low tide brings the flattest water conditions. The downwinders are absolutely spectacular because there are miles and miles of wide open empty beaches...

THE WINDSURFING
From July until January the average wind force is 5-6 Beaufort with strong and steady winds. A long, broad beach with a sandy bottom and side shore wind from the right makes Preá not only perfect for kitesurfing but also for windsurfing.
Due to these ideal conditions and the great demand, Club Mistral offers windsurfing tuition (only private lessons) and rental of Mistral boards and North sails.
As this is a small centre with just 20 Mistral boards and 35 North rigs from 3.3 - 6.5 metres, we highly recommend pre-booking your board as early as possible. Instruction is only available here for advanced sailors in private lessons.

VILA PREA`
Vila Preá is located only a few steps from the Club Mistral/Skyriders Centre on a 10 km stretch of white sandy beach on the Brazilian coast. Vila Preá was designed to unplug you from your stressfull daily life. Get back in touch with nature, change your way of thinking, listen to the soothing rythm of the Ocean and watch the sun set and the moon rise. Later on, turn off the lights, sit on your deck, and enjoy the star-filled skies and watch the Milky Way like you never have before.

VILA KALANGO
The Pousada Vila Kalango is nestled in a 5000m² tropic garden, surrounded by coconut and cashew nut trees. This beautiful place is located right behind a sand dune at the beach of Jericoacoara. The Club Mistral Skyriders center is located in Preá (10km South of Jeri). Both locations are connected via a shuttle service which operates several times a day. This comfortable, charming pousada belongs to one of Brazil´s best accommodations. It offers 24 rooms of a different kind: stilt houses, bungalows and apartment rooms. The hotel features one restaurant (brazilian cuisine with mediterranean influence), swimming pool bar, restaurant bar, lounge with hammocks, sofas and a variety of games, cable TV room, internet café, secure wind- and kite equipment storage, a beauty parlour with massages and salt baths and in the midst of it a 19m swimming pool, surrounded by a wooden deck, with spectacular views of the beach and the sand dune.

VILA BELA VISTA
Vila Bela Vista is located in front of the beautiful sand dunes on the out skirts of the small village of Jericoacoara where there is still peace and tranquility. It is a leisurely ten-minute walk to the beach and town on a sandy road with incredible views. A daily shuttle will bring you to the Club Mistral/Skyriders Centre in Prea which is about 10km from Jeri. Patricia and her husband, Marcio, run the small hotel with just thirteen rooms and offer exceptional personal service. There is a great swimming pool and Jacuzzi surrounded by large, beautiful gardens for your relaxation. Also the 40 meter well water has been tested and it is safe to drink! There is a wide open kitchen, pool bar and BBQ area where weekly “Brazilian style” BBQ parties are hosted with guests. The large inclusive breakfastsare legendary and homemade snacks, lunches and dinners are also available.
